But the seating sequences are where one really goes in deep- into the muscles and the mind. Finding progress with each breath. Restorative practice ❤️ I like to schedule at least one restorative or yin practice every week. This afternoon seemed like the perfect time to reset for the week. I am finding that I love restorative yoga...I love all the props. Set me up with all of the cushions, blocks and blankets and I'm happy! This combo hip opener/hamstring stretch is a great way to increase range of motion and hamstring flexibility. Start in a low lunge (pic 1). Keep your front knee stacked over your ankle. Work to keep your chest lifted. To increase the stretch in your back hip flexor, walk your knee back some and take full breaths as you surrender your hips toward the floor. You can hold the lunge for a breath or two. Then inhale as you extend through the top of you head to make your spine long and exhale as you shift back to half splits (pic 2). Note: The goal of the half splits pose is not to touch your head to your knee so avoid rounding in the back and think more about extanding over the straight or semi straight leg. Inhale to low lunge. Exhale to half splits. Repeat. I enjoy the entire spine stretch I get from the forward bend. I use the also called Cobbler pose before getting myself ready for meditation.
