COSMIC QUIETUDE :: Do you remember to make time to unwind? Resting our bodies and brains is essential in ensuring that we have enough energy the next day. In the evenings, spend your last hour or so in quiet — disconnected from devices, spending quality time with loved ones or loving yourself. Have a cup of warm, anti-inflammatory turmeric milk with nutmeg, a natural sleep aid, before bed. Play some relaxing instrumental music, and spend a few minutes journaling about your day, letting go of any lingering thoughts you may want to wind up or press pause on. This is a perfect time to decompress and massage away the tension of the day. Use a calming essential oil, such as lavender, chamomile, geranium, or rose, in a diffuser or in an oil blend to massage your scalp and feet for how hard they have worked. Clockwise massage to the abdomen can aid the digestive system in processing matter leftover from dinner so that it (and you!) can rest more easily overnight. When you’ve really settled in, take 10 minutes for mantra or meditation to further still the mind followed by 5-10 min of viparita karani (legs up the wall pose). This pose relieves tired or cramped legs and feet, gently stretches the posterior chain of the body, relieves mild back pain, and facilitates veinous blood flow in returning to the heart.
